Matthew Kennedy

Mr. Kennedy is in his seventh year at Firestone Community Learning Center, and 15th year teaching overall. At Firestone Mr. Kennedy teaches concert bands, jazz band, marching band, music theory, and music career technical education courses. Prior to Firestone, he taught band and elementary general music at Newbury Local Schools, and at Sandusky City Schools taught middle school and high school band. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from The Ohio State University and earned his Master of Arts, Music Education degree from Case Western Reserve University. He also completed Career and Technical Education coursework through Kent State University. While working towards his Masters degree he had the pleasure to work with Dr. Gary Ciepluch and the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony as a section coach and conductor.  

 

Mr. Kennedy's primary instrument is the trumpet and has enjoyed the opportunity to perform with the Cleveland Winds, the OSU Alumni Band and in pit orchestras. He marched mellophone six summers in Drum Corps International, four with the Spartans and two with the Madison Scouts. In 2014 he participated in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Madison Scouts Corps of Brothers. Mr. Kennedy enjoys spending time with his wife, Melanie, and their three daughters, Jackie, Ginny, and Arden.
